Expert Answers about A-Frame Trailer Coupler

  • A-Frame Trailer Coupler that Can be Bolted Onto a Trailer
  • Bulldog A-frame trailer coupler # BD43805W0317 does not have holes on the side because it is a weld-on coupler. Coupler # BD44150WH301 can be bolted on but it is for a 2-5/16 inch ball, not a 2 inch ball like # BD43805W0317. All of the other A-frame couplers we have are weld-on applications. If you go with a weld-on coupler the welding will need to be performed by a qualified professional welder.

  • The Demco coupler # DM16680-52 you were looking at does not include the hardware needed for installation. It would be a good idea to switch over from your weld on to a bolt on coupler, this will make it a whole lot easier to replace over time as it wears out as you have stated.

  • The Bulldog Heavy-Duty A-Frame Coupler, # BD44150WH301, does not come with the attachment bolts. I have attached two images showing the bolt pattern measurements and the bolt hole sizes. I would recommend using grade 8 bolts, but grade 5 is acceptable and the amount of bolts you will need will depend on how you plan on mounting the coupler. I would recommend using the bolt holes on the side of the coupler to mount to your trailer. I spoke with my contact for Bulldog and he said you will...
